Each year at the Annual Conference, the Leadership & Management Division has presented its Management Leadership Award to an outstanding member in recognition of significant contributions to, and leadership in, the profession of information management during the past five years. In 1999, the award was renamed the Karen J. Switt Award. Achievements may be in any aspect of library and information management, such as human resources, finance, technology, planning and strategy, communication, marketing and public relations, information policy, ethics and visionary leadership.
The award is for service to the division, to winners who meet all of the following criteria:
- Having served in many roles in the Division
- Providing extraordinary service to LMD over a long period of time
- Being at or near retirement
This award is not intended to be an annual award or only for a single recent effort. It is intended to be awarded occasionally for truly outstanding service over time.
The Leadership & Management Division co-sponsors a deserving recipient of the SLA Europe Early Career Conference Award beginning in 2009.
