Marketing breakfast and Swap-n-Shop

With Early Registration for the 2012 annual conference open, we want to remind you to include the LMD Marketing Section breakfast scheduled for Tuesday morning, July 17, at 8AM. In addition to our virtual Swap-n-Shop, we have an exciting panel discussion planned, Using Social Media to Promote Libraries and Librarians. We’ve asked three extraordinary individuals to lead the discussion, building on their successes over the past few years, so that we can benefit from their unique perspectives as:

Social Media Marketing guru Melissa Giovagnoli, President of Networlding

Corporate Media Marketing officer Roger Tye, Director of Consumer Engagement at Allstate Insurance Co.

Our own Connie Crosby, Crosby Group Consulting.

As always, we thank the Advertising and Marketing Division (AMD) as a co-hosting SLA unit, and look forward to having their members participate in a lively discussion.

If you’d like to inspire others by having your marketing materials included in the virtual Swap-N-Shop, please use the online form to let us know that you’d like to contribute. Even if you are only thinking about contributing, please complete a form so that we will know what we might expect, how much material, and what we need to do at the breakfast to make this accessible to our members. It’s your contributions that make the Swap-N-Shop special!

We need final submissions by 1 May 2012.

Let your work inspire others! Participate in LMD’s Virtual Swap-n-Shop

In the modern organization, users of your information service are no longer confined by physical location – they may be located far away from your physical library. As interaction becomes increasingly digital, new technologies and tools make it easier for us to be creative and push the bounds of the traditional library brochure, fact sheets, and “how to” guides that used to be distributed on paper. So, we want to know how you introduce, inform and promote:

  • Resources within it (and how to access them)?
  • The capabilities of your staff?
  • The benefits of using your services?

Do you have targeted approaches to new users? What strategies do you use to turn occasional users into habitual ones? Have you created a tutorial for using your library’s electronic resources? We want to see what you’ve done! Tell us how you use social media tools to keep in touch with your clients.

The LMD Marketing Section invites contributions for our VIRTUAL SWAP-N-SHOP to take place during the LMD Breakfast at this year’s annual conference in Chicago on Wednesday, July 18, beginning at 8:00AM. We will display the fruits of your labor—the best of the best—for your colleagues to view throughout the breakfast meeting. In addition, we are asking for a one-page/single screen summary of the tools you used, how you accomplished this marketing feat, and costs associated with it. Links to your virtual brochures, tutorials, etc., will be shared with colleagues who are not able to make the meeting on the new LMD Marketing Section site .

Please let us know of your intent to contribute by using the online form. Even if you are only thinking about contributing, please complete a form so that we will know what we might expect, how much material, and what we need to do at the breakfast to make this accessible to our members.

Early Bird Special! Those who announce their participation by December 31, 2011, and follow through by delivering their final submissions to us by May 1, 2012, will be entered into a drawing to have their marketing efforts reviewed by an expert in the field. Inquiries may be sent to LMD Marketing Section co-chairs, Bethan Ruddock (Bethan.Ruddock@gmail.com) or Barbie Keiser (Barbie.Keiser@gmail.com)
